What an amazing and crazy week! I was lucky enough to make it into the Miss Snark’s First Victim Baker’s Dozen contest where you post a sample of your work and Agents bid on the pieces they’d like to see. Authoress is one of the most generous writers I know to set up something like this. I can’t even imagine how much work she puts into it! And it was such an honor to be included with all the other talented writers who got in. There were some Ahhhmazing entries that I’m dying to read!
While I’d love to say I had a bidding war erupt over my work like some of the other entries, mine was a little quieter. I had two agents bid, and I get to send 20 pages to Melissa Jeglinski at the Knight Agency.*Does happy dance*
The whole experience was quite a ride. Our entries were posted last Friday, and I was a quivering mess of jelly all weekend as I waited to see what people would think. For the most part, people liked it. Talk about relief! And all of the feedback I got was SO greatly appreciated. But, I’m feeling a bit drained now. First there was the stress of worrying about people hating the excerpt. Then there was the stress of worrying that I wouldn’t get any agent bids. I know just making it into the contest is a huge deal, and I would have been happy enough with that, but having gotten that far, I was really hoping for some agent interest.
But looking back now, this contest was invaluable for more than just the agents and the critiques. It creates such a sense of community and camaraderie. I met some awesome people this week that I would never have known otherwise, and I am SO grateful for that. Any time you find people you can connect with it’s a good thing 🙂 I’m proud to be part of this group of writers, proud that I’ve been part of this journey with them. And excited about what the future holds for all of us.
