I don’t have a ton of vices – just the usual – chocolate, tea, books… All fairly harmless. But I am a complete sucker for one thing: Perfume. It’s funny, I was never a real girly-girl, I didn’t much care for make up or beauty products as a teenager, but some how I got totally hooked a few years back, and now…well now you don’t want to see my bathroom. Every surface is covered with bottles and samples.
I used to be on a constant search for that one signature scent – the one I could wear every day, the one that would immediately identify me. There are people I work with who have that scent – you can tell when they’ve been in the room, or know when they’re around. But I quickly found out that I have a commitment problem. Just when I found one scent I loved, I’d stumble on another one that captivated me. Besides, who wants to be limited to just one scent! Some days you’re in a mood for something soft and romantic, other days, sharp and spicy. This quote really says it all:
Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains.
Diane Ackerman
So from now on, I’m going to add a Perfume of the Day paragraph to the end of my posts to share that info with you guys (and keep track for myself). I’ll also let you know where I got it – just in case it sounds like something you want to check out.
Today’s Perfume: Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb
Description: This floral explosion releases a profusion of flowers that has the power to make everything seem more positive. Magically evocative notes immediately awaken your deepest senses, giving you the impression of living life in your own secret garden, away from reality. Sambac Jasmine, Centifolia Rose, Cattleya Orchid, and Ballerina Freesia bloom on a base of Patchouli. (Via Sephora)
My thoughts: This one has a heavy vanilla component for me, even though it’s not listed in the notes and the patchouli really shines through with it’s smoky scent. The flowers are very subtle – not what I think of for something named Flowerbomb! It’s also a lot heavier than I expected, though I’m sure it’s going to last all day on me, which is always a good thing. Overall, not full bottle worthy for me, but I know a ton of people who absolutely love this one.
Where to buy: Sephora
ah, this is a neat feature!!! I LOVE Flowerbomb! I bought a teeny bottle of it because I wasn’t sure I’d be able to use the whole thing before it went off/getting tired of it (because it is so heavy). I’m attracted to it because of the vanilla undertones (it’s strange that it’s not listed in the notes if we both noticed it!). Actually, I’ve been on the hunt for the ‘perfect’ vanilla perfume forever. My most recent purchase was Jo Malone’s ‘Vanilla & Anise’. People keep complimenting me on it, so I guess it’s a winner!
I’ve been searching for the perfect vanilla too! It’s just so hard to find something that’s not too heavy and not too sweet! I’ll have to check out Jo Malone’s – I just stumbled on her site and am SO excited 🙂
I’m really picky about my perfumes. I find most scents overpowering. I do like DKNY Be Delicious, though.
Sounds like a pretty perfume!
